Removing Carpet From Terrazzo Floors
Remove the 3 foot wide carpet sections from the tack strips by shaking the carpet in a back and forth motion while pulling it up from the surface of the floor.

Pry up the metal nosing and remove it if present. Clear out the room and remove all wall decor. Gently scrub over the adhesive to remove the residue from the terrazzo flooring. Begin with the blade of the knife at the bottom of the adhesive rocking the blade gently back and forth to loosen the adhesive.
Cut into the carpet around the perimeter. Pull back a corner of the carpet using a pair of pliers. Once the padding is removed from the tacking strip it is easy to roll up and then remove. Locate the tack strip near the edges of the carpet pad.
Begin at the top of the stairs. Lift the adhesive by scraping gently with the putty knife to remove the larger pieces of adhesive. Then repeat this entire process. Do not gouge or chip the terrazzo.
Grab the cut end of carpet and pull it from the stairs using gloved hands. At this point if the coating was stained and not the terrazzo itself it is possible that the stain may be gone. Gently pull the carpet pad off the floor at the tacking strip. Pad damage on terrazzo flooring.
Use an absorbent white cloth or paper towels to soak up the solution. Lift the cleaning rag dip it back in the bucket and wring it out once more. Then use a utility knife to cut a slit into the carpet around the perimeter over the tacking strips located under the carpet. Video of the day.
If needed use a dull knife to scrape. Use the utility knife to cut through the carpet pad if you want. If your terrazzo floor was already restored by another company and still has glue stains we can likely remove them. No other problem damaged more terrazzo floors then these carpet pads did.
