Removed Carpet Now Door Is Too Short

I had the same problem on a few doors when i had the carpeting removed and laminate installed.

Removed carpet now door is too short. Once the much thinner laminate and underlayment was installed it became painfully obvious. That or replace the whole door and trim. Prior the carpet was plusher and made the gap in this one door jamb less obvious. I ve just had new carpet fitted with thick underlay but as soon as fittter had left and i went to close sitting room door i realised carpet is too high and the door had to be forced hard to close.

Caulking won t affect the flooring but its caulk and doesn t last forever and dirt sticks to it. Matthews straight away and they said i ll have to get the door shaved i am reluctant to do this as it s a really old door. Sometimes carpenters can fill that space in with wood and since its painted it would hide the fact that its a sliver of wood down there. If you remove old carpeting or a built up floor and now the door trim is a bit too short don t fret.

With wood filler that can be sanded and painted perhaps. Obviously the casing trim was way too short to begin with but the carpet and pad hid that fact. These decorative square wood blocks often found in older homes are used at the corners and bottom of wood trim. Doors are made 80 inches long.

Door jamb molding i m pretty sure i am going to replace the molding anyways to a more modern style. So go green and save a door.
